Russam and Collaborating Worldwide

Jason Atkinson, Managing Director of Russam GMS, writes of the WIL Group Conference 2018 in April and its theme, ‘Collaboration in a Changing Business World’

Those who attended will no doubt agree that the WIL Group’s fourth annual conference, held across both London and nearby Windsor, was a resounding success. A combination of the hustle and bustle of the city, along with the tranquil and picturesque setting for the upcoming royal wedding.

I’d like to say a big thank you to all those clients who made it along to the cocktail party on Monday 23rd April. It was great to welcome so many of you to the WIL Group’s HQ and to hear the thoughts of our panellists from the Bank of England and TSB on the latest trends in banking.

The conference then ran across the following two days at the MacDonald Hotel in Windsor. It provided the perfect venue to discuss and debate the theme of ‘collaboration in a changing business world’, to reflect on the group’s activities throughout 2017 and to agree our processes and plans for the year ahead.

‘Collaborative’ sessions included a opening address from our Chairman, Patrick Laredo, on the theme of ‘State of Union’. This was followed by presentations from the WIL Group ExCom members, including an overview of our operations, as well as an update on the Private Equity activity and the Quality Charter.

Members were then encouraged to come together in collaborative sessions to debate themes including bilateral targeting, to growing locally and deriving more opportunities from local and global PE firms.

For the first time, votes were cast for the best cross-border signed project. Partners were able to showcase their valuable work over the past year supporting global business with executive interim based services. It was encouraging to see France, the UK and Spain as joint winners alongside Italy and India for their work on completing successful assignments.

We welcomed thought-provoking presentations from HSBC on the theme of ‘Brexit confusion amid a global revival’ and A.T. Kearney on collaborating successfully. Wonder 14 also gave a presentation on the theme of ‘algorithm to biorhythm’, with the parting comment: “every business is a digital business, and that is how business will be done in the future.”

Our partners and guests were treated to a private tour of Windsor Castle (in advance of the wedding). And the conference closed off with a lunch banquet in the town’s historic Guildhall.

I am personally excited about the potential for further cross-border assignments, and for the power of the WIL Group as we continue to collaborate in this changing business world. It was wonderful to host the conference in the UK, and we look forward to this time next year…
