The pan-disability charity Leonard Cheshire is looking to recruit 3 new trustees. Leonard Cheshire is a leading charity which has been supporting disabled people for more than 70 years.
The charity is involved in a major restructuring and is focussing on our core UK Adult Social Care activities, providing residential and domiciliary care to several thousand severely disabled adults of working age (both physical disabilities and learning disabilities).
Obviously, like all adult social care providers, Leonard Cheshire is facing a perfect storm of challenges: staff shortages/turnover, high agency fees, energy price hikes, food and general inflation and local authorities unable to pay uplifts which match increased costs.
In our case, we want to modernise our offer and repurpose our physical estate. We also see huge potential in assistive technologies to give our residents more independence. We are very excited and positive about the future.

We are seeking to bring 3 new trustees onto the board: someone with very recent experience at board/C-suite level of social care for adults of working age, specifically in forms of living; someone with significant experience of organisations in financial turnaround; and a qualified chartered accountant, ideally with experience of financial accounting in the charity sector.
This is a challenging but immensely worthwhile opportunity to help transform one of the UK’s largest disability charities and to help many more disabled Britons to live, learn and earn as they wish to do.
We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and would particularly welcome for at least one of the positions applications from people who have personally lived with or have had professional experience of disability, which could include having disability in the family or in a close friend, working with disabled people, or being a trustee of a disability charity.
