ACEVO Calls for the Voluntary Sector to Think Hard About its Progress

Russam GMS are delighted to sponsor this year’s ACEVO Pay and Equalities Survey, an annual publication that has become one of the most important publications of its kind in the voluntary sector. The survey gives us the opportunity to take a close look at how charities are operating within the UK in terms of their CEOs: how CEOs are appraised, what challenges they are facing, and who are becoming CEOs in the first place.

When you read the survey, you’ll notice the many positives it brings to light, but you’ll also note at least as many areas in which the voluntary sector could improve.

As Vicky Browning, CEO of ACEVO, says, “discussing these issues openly and honestly doesn’t mean that charity CEOs aren’t proud of our work or the sector we work in, but if we do not become more comfortable discussing the challenges we face, both individually and as a sector, nothing will change.”

We agree with that sentiment, which is why we do the work we do within the Not for Profit sector, looking for candidates from a broader network to increase diversity and helping charities map out much-needed and often lacking succession planning. Our Managing Director Ian Joseph became a charity CEO at just 29 before launching another career in the Interim Management sector; as a result, we’re led by a great depth of knowledge about the sector and in particular the role of CEO.

The 2018 edition is available from today from the ACEVO website here.
