Russam-GMS are deeply attached to what happens in the boardroom. We are one of the founding companies of Step on Board and Trustees Unlimited, technical sponsors to the Winmark NED network and we are building a thriving board practice. In addition, we work closely with Cranfield School of Management contributing to their 2-day Non-Executive Director Seminar – for which we receive extremely satisfying feedback.
The UK Corporate Governance Code for 2018 is clear on about Board Evaluation. It states:
There should be a formal and rigorous annual evaluation of the performance of the board, its committees, the chair and individual directors. The chair should consider having a regular externally facilitated board evaluation. In FTSE 350 companies this should happen at least every three years.
In addition to adhering to governance rules – the effectiveness of boards depends on the capabilities, the behaviours and the way boards organize their work. A good board evaluation and the improvements made will have a positive impact on the company they are directing.
In addition to focusing on results a board can lead by example creating the culture they need for the company to succeed.
