The Situation: 

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is a leading charity operating in the UK and internationally. Their work connects and enables the vital organisations, institutions and individuals working to ensure everyone has a stake in the future.  

CAF exists ‘to accelerate progress in society towards an equitable and sustainable future for all. CAF is one of the largest charitable foundations in Europe and works with people, companies, and charities to facilitate and encourage giving and provide financial services tailored to the needs of charities, including banking, investment, and advisory services.  

CAF sought an interim to support their desire to modernise all aspects of the processes. However, they were aware that this individual would come from a commercial financial background, as most not-for-profit organisations were planning or amid a similar transformation.   

The Solution: 

CAF were seeking a highly experienced and senior organisational Transformation interim professional who would hold full accountability for the overall delivery of their emerging four-year strategy programme (2021-2025). This ongoing change programme involves transforming the organisation’s operating model, digital technology architecture, cultural change, and improved governance model. 

They appointed Russam to locate an interim before employing a Chief Operations Officer that will see the strategy till completion. 

Results: 

We supported CAF in hiring Angus Macfarlane, who was appointed as the interim Group Transformation in May 2021. Angus excels in creating and delivering innovative change programs, illustrated by his experience at National Australia Group, Hewlett-Packard and P&G. His early career with the Charity sector is helpful too as he has a great understanding of how charities are managed. 

Angus made such a significant impact at CAF that his role was expanded to Interim Group IT and Transformation Director. He is delivering the business plan for the four-year transformation program. He supported CAF’s transition into a more commercial mindset with a high degree of people management along the journey. Angus’ insight has put CAF firmly on track to approach change and operational efficiencies in a practical and mindful way.
