ShareAction started life as a campaign that worked with People & Planet, where they helped Britain’s largest pension scheme adopt a responsible investment policy.

Since then, they have expanded to campaign on the most pressing issues facing the world today. They’ve driven change at the heart of the financial system, shaped public policy and built a diverse movement of savers and investors for responsible investment.

Sonia Shah

Sonia is the key lead on ESG and Climate Risk at Grant Thornton UK LLP. She is a qualified accountant with 20 years of international experience in advisory and assurance with global institutions in the UK, North America, and East Africa. She has worked with C-Suite and Board level professionals across the banking, insurance, and asset management sectors, including several local and foreign banks. Sonia has extensive experience leading and delivering key regulatory-driven projects and other advisory and assurance programmes across geographies.

She brings substantial leadership experience from her various roles across industry and consulting. She has led and directed multiple control-related audits and reviews where her wealth of experience has covered a range of control framework disciplines. She has many years of experience conducting various regulatory requirements across different functional areas, including regulatory change projects. She has also driven regulatory requests from PRA, FCA and the OCC. Sonia also works at the Board level to advise clients on the effectiveness of their regulatory frameworks. She has supported clients in benchmarking against regulatory expectations and peers within the industry.

Her current role involves leading and overseeing various sustainability projects, including supporting firms in meeting Climate Risk regulatory requirements in the UK. She has also driven regulatory requests from PRA, FCA and the OCC. Sonia is currently instrumental in developing the firm’s ESG and Climate Risk practice. She has written several regulatory articles and is a keynote speaker on the topic at several externally hosted professional events. She provides training locally and internationally to Boards, Senior Management, and key senior individuals.

Hugh Wheelan

A media entrepreneur, Hugh was co-founder of Response Global Media, publisher of Responsible Investor and Responsible Company, and built it into the leading, internationally respected ESG and sustainable finance media and events company. The business was sold to PEI Media in July 2021.

Over a 25-year career as a journalist and editor, Hugh has written extensively on ESG, investment, corporate and sustainability issues for international publications, including Financial News, The Guardian, and The Financial Times. Hugh has interviewed many of the biggest names in global institutional finance. As the Paris Correspondent and Fund Management Editor at Financial News, part of the Wall Street Journal. He was a Political and Economic advisor to the Secretary-General of Amnesty International.

During his career, Hugh has won many journalism awards: In 2020, he won the Outstanding Contribution to Institutional Journalism at the State Street Press Awards. He won the Aon Journalist of the Year award in 2006
