ODI riverside chat. Diversity in the boardroom
Cathy and Eddy went to the ODI riverside chat. The subject of the conversation was diversity in the boardrooms and gender inequality in the data and technology sector, and these topics are very close to the heart of Russam. The speakers Justine Roberts CBE (founder and CEO of Mumsnet) and Professor Judy Wajcman (Anthony Giddens Professor of Sociology, London School of Economics; and Principal Investigator for the Women in Data Science and AI project, The Alan Turing Institute) had a great conversation and Q&A session. The moment that stood out to me was learning that companies with bonus incentives based on equality performed better and that inequality is slowing down technological progress—citing the issue with face recognition software as an example of inequality in the sector.
