Interim CTO / Head of Technology (6 Month Contract)

The Opportunity

An experienced Interim CTO or Head of Technology is required for an initial six-month assignment to provide senior technology leadership during a critical period of transformation.
 This assignment is focused on ensuring the successful delivery of that implementation and achieving operational readiness. 

This role will provide strategic technology leadership, own the relationship with the external technology partner, challenge where appropriate, manage delivery risk and ensure the business receives maximum value from its investment.

Working closely with the Executive team—and particularly the COO based in Manchester—you will ensure technology decisions remain aligned with operational priorities and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide executive-level technology leadership during a significant period of business change.
• Own the strategic relationship with tech partners, ensuring delivery remains on track, within scope and aligned to business priorities.
• Hold external suppliers accountable for delivery against agreed milestones.
• Oversee the coexistence of legacy systems while managing transition to the new platform.
• Identify, manage and mitigate implementation risks throughout the programme.
• Act as the primary technology adviser to the CEO and Executive team.
• Work closely with the COO to ensure operational readiness across the business.
• Build confidence with senior stakeholders through clear communication, transparency and leadership.
• Coordinate technology priorities across four UK sites.
• Ensure governance, reporting and decision-making processes support successful programme delivery.
• Create an appropriate technology roadmap beyond implementation, leaving the business well positioned for its next stage of growth.

The Person

We are seeking an accomplished interim technology leader who combines strong commercial judgement with excellent stakeholder management.

You will have experience leading complex technology programmes within growing organisations and be comfortable operating at Board and Executive level. You understand how to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery and know how to get the best from external technology partners.

You are collaborative by nature but comfortable providing challenge where necessary, earning credibility through experience rather than hierarchy.

Experience Required

• Previous experience as an Interim CTO, Technology Director or Head of Technology.
• Proven delivery of large-scale technology implementation or transformation programmes.
• Significant experience managing third-party technology vendors and systems integrators.
• Strong programme governance and delivery oversight.
• Experience operating within private equity-backed or high-growth organisations would be advantageous.
• Commercially minded with excellent business acumen.
• Strong leadership and influencing skills.
• Comfortable travelling regularly around the UK.
