The Organisation

Our client is a privately owned group headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya with sales of c$30m per annum.

The Group is operationally sound, but it has issues that need addressing in the finance function and the short time aim is to bring this up to speed with the appointment of an overseas interim FD. Then the plan is to hire a permanent Finance Director after the interim assignment is completed.

This could be a fun, exciting and rewarding c3month adventure for one of our Russam Interim FD’s. Likely starting the first week in October. 

We do not have a specific daily rate/consulting fee in mind yet and this needs to be discussed with interested candidates along with flights, expenses etc. We The equivalent permanent salary would be c£120k + bonus/benefits. 

Role & Responsibilities

The organisation needs a strong Interim FD who can get the finance division onto a front foot and under control. The Group has two key divisions of roughly equal size and it has been difficult to extract financial information by division in a meaningful way. For example, Sales and Gross Margin by division and allocation of overheads. It is thus difficult for the Board to ascertain the trends as they don’t have the information on a comparison basis, against prior year and it is difficult to prepare budgets and forecasts. It is also difficult to get accurate management accounts out in a timely fashion. Finally, there is some oversight of implementing new financial systems and a migration project.

The Desired Candidate

• Qualified accountant
• Evidence of getting control over a finance division incl. cash flow management, management accounts and across FP&A
• “Intrepid” and enthusiastic about spending c3 months in Kenya – perhaps having spent time during career working in a developing country
• Hands on, patient and effective in terms of stakeholder management and communications. . . working effectively with the internal finance team and external accounting firm.
