This week the newly formed Trustee Diversity Panel has published its inaugural InspireList of over 60 inspirational trustees from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The Inspire List celebrates the achievements of those who have overcome significant barriers to step up as trustees, in a bid to inspire others from underrepresented groups to join them.
Submissions to the Inspire List will continue to be accepted online, and the list will be refreshed monthly, in order to continue building a broader picture of trustee racial and ethnic diversity. Please do continue to share and spread the word.
The Trustee Diversity Panel was formed to take action to improve diversity, inclusion and equity on charity boards and the Inspire List is its first initiative. The panel is convened by Wakkas Khan DL, a trustee of Oxfam, and members are: Tesse Akpeki, Harris Bokhari OBE, Malcolm John, Remi Shogelola, and Precious Sithole.
Trustees Unlimited, the leading trustee recruitment company owned by Russam, is providing practical support for the Panel and this initiative.
Ian Joseph, Founding Director of Trustees Unlimited, said: “We are proud to support the panel in creating a list of incredibly inspiring trustees from a wide range of different backgrounds. However, it is tragic that in 2021 we are even having to pull a list like this together. Charities need to do better and my hope is that this list will inspire people everywhere to step up to serve and for charities to consider their commitment to diversity and inclusion.”
