The Organisation
With a 400-year strong history of charitable giving, Dr Edwards & Bishop King’s Fulham Charity (often referred to as DEBK) are a local charity that helps provide for the needs of people living in the old Metropolitan Borough of Fulham, London, since 1618.
The Role
DEBK are looking to appoint their next Chief Executive to develop the role of the Charity, ensure its efficient administration and to be responsible for its premises and all services and projects which it carries out.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising Trustees on issues of governance and ensuring that all the Charity’s activities and administration are compliant with charity and company law.
- Representing the interests of the Charity to outside agencies as required by the Trustees.
- Maintaining the profile of the Charity, ensuring that it is known to the people of Fulham and appropriate statutory and voluntary agencies. This should include ensuring a solid social media presence.
- Developing the Charity in accordance with the Trustees’ policies and procedures.
- Managing staff employed by the Charity.
- Administering/co-ordinating the work of the Charity, organising, attending and servicing meetings of the Trustees as required. Preparing reports, taking minutes, and implementing the Trustees’ decisions.
- Taking responsibility for the oversight and daily administration of grants applications such as will be presented to the Trustees. Managing the general grants giving processes, from beginning to end. This is to include involvement in all aspects of the day to day work concerned with the relief of need for Fulham families.
- Liaising with the Treasurer and the Finance Committee concerning the Charity’s investments and funds. Assist in the preparation and management of budgets, and managing all invoicing and payments. Assisting in the management of the annual audit, and with the compilation of the annual report and accounts.
- Taking overall responsibility for the financial management of the Charity, and supervising the work of the book-keeper and ensuring that regular reports and budgets concerning the Charity’s investments and funds are given to the Trustees.
- Taking overall responsibility for the management of the Charity’s premises, including for any buildings or parts of buildings which may be let from time to time.
- Undertaking any other duties appropriate to the post as may be required by the Trustees.
- Reporting to the Chair of the charity.
The Desired Applicant
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with significant, senior management experience in a charity, community or grant making organisation including administration of the allocation of charitable funds. Other criteria includes:
- A proven track record of strategic thinking and ability to see the whole picture, as well as close attention to detail
- A solid understanding, and knowledge of, Charity law and Governance
- Professional and diplomatic with excellent interpersonal, networking and influencing skills; able to build and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of people
- Adept at building and maintaining effective working relationships and working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including working with non-executive or charitable boards
- Strong general management skills, including team leadership, experience in budget management and the organisation and chairing of meetings
- Excellent planning and organisation skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Highly numerate, with an excellent knowledge of budgeting/financial reporting and ability to analyse complex information and figures
- Experience of property management
- Integrity and empathy with an ability to relate to people from all social sectors
- Imagination, drive and determination to ensure successful conclusion of tasks, experienced at leading cross functional work streams and projects
